The Isle of Palms City Council has appointed Springdale Police Chief Kevin Cornett as its new police chief. Cornett was named at a special meeting Monday night, according to a report from WCSC -Live 5-TV in Charleston.
Cornett’s wife, Sarah, posted the following on Facebook Monday evening:
“It’s officially official!! The cat is outta the bag and the Cornetts are on our way to IOP. To say I’m beyond proud of Kevin Cornett is an understatement and makes it sound as if I played a role in his amazing accomplishments. He never ceases to amaze me and I cannot wait to start this new chapter of our lives within the Isle of Palms community. Thank you to everyone who has been praying over our unspoken prayer requests.”
Cornett’s first day on the job as the new chief will Monday, June 3, according to the TV report.
Cornett has been the Springdale chief of police since 2012. The TV report said he was interviewed in April for the Isle of Palms job. A public meet and greet was also held in April.
Cornett wasn’t the only candidate up for the job. There were three other candidates, according to WCSC.
